Alot of questions about college, answer as many as you can?

ok so i am in the process of applying and have a bunch of questions :

1. When I apply online, can my high school send my transcript online too, or do they have to mail it?

2. My boyfriend is a sophomore in college and is looking to transfer, what exactly do “semester hours” mean? Are they just credits?

3. Not all colleges require an essay, right? Only if they say so in the requirements? Or is it better to submit one anyway, but i do not understand hwo that is possible seeing as there is no topic …

4. Does my high school send my SAT scores to the colleges i apply to, or do i have to request that collegeboard.com sends them? and do i send them after i apply..

5. and this is a specific question, for florida state university it says this, *Florida State University has exceeded enrollment limitations and, as a result, will only accept Spring 2009 applications from students wanting to transfer to FSU directly after receiving the AA degree from a Florida public community college.
Do you think it means my boyfriend can’t apply since he is looking to aply for fall 2009 ?

6. and one moree … i want to major in fashion design, and i want to go to school in the south. but i don’t want to go to a college that is trictly arts-related, i really want t get the whole college experience and go to a university. any suggestions?

i’m sorry. i’m just so overwhelmed with all this stuff, and i have to apply to at least 7 colleges as told by my financial advisor.

    1. Transcripts are only official if they are printed on the high school’s official paper, so you’ll have to get the official ones (not the one you see online) and mail them.

    2. Yes, semester hours are credits.

    3. If they don’t ask for an essay, they don’t want to read one, so there’s probably no point in sending one. The schools that don’t ask for essays are usually a bit easier to get into and get thousands of applicants; they don’t have that kind of time.

    4. You have to get CollegeBoard to send them for you. They need to be mailed by the time the application is due, so do it well ahead of time.

    5. No, it sounds like they’re just referring to the spring semester, which starts sooner. He can almost certainly still apply for the fall semester.

    1. your high school has to send your transcript by mail
    2. semester hours are the units he has taken that semester
    3. if the college application does not require an essay, there is no need to submit one.
    4. you have to request that college board sends your SAT scores
    5. not sure about that, you should call Florida state’s office of admissions and ask about that
    6. not sure, sorry.

They’re going to have to mail it.

Yes, probably. The school probably just calls credit hours, semester hours.

    Right.
If they don’t say they want one or if they don’t say one is optional don’t give them one.

Provided your college has that information it will be sent along with your transcript. If you’re not sure you can talk to the person who deals with sending the transcripts and find out for yourself.

No, what it’s saying is if you want to attend Spring 2009 then you have to have an AA by that time. Your boyfriend is fine with applying for Fall 2009.

Go to college board’s college search and find some schools.

Your advisor tells you to apply to at least *7*? That’s ridiculous. Apply to as many as you want to apply to but don’t do more than you want. Remember: you have to pay around $50 PER APPLICATION. Unless you have $350 lying around I would lower that number.

    1. When I apply online, can my high school send my transcript online too, or do they have to mail it?

In most cases yes, you can send transcripts online, but you have to set it up and authorize it, ask your counselor.

    2. My boyfriend is a sophomore in college and is looking to transfer, what exactly do “semester hours” mean? Are they just credits?

semester hours should be the same thing as credit hours, typically one class is equal to 3 credit hours per semester. also, i’m not trying to but in, but you really should not encourage your bf to xfer to where you are going, let him walk his own path at the college he chose, if you guys break up at the same college just think how awkward that would be and how it may affect your studies, just my advice.

    3. Not all colleges require an essay, right? Only if they say so in the requirements?

I’m not sure on that, as all the schools I applied to did require an essay

    4. Does my high school send my SAT scores to the colleges i apply to, or do i have to request that collegeboard.com sends them? and do i send them after i apply.

they will be sent with your transcripts.

    5. and this is a specific question, for florida state university it says this, *Florida State University has exceeded enrollment limitations and, as a result, will only accept Spring 2009 applications from students wanting to transfer to FSU directly after receiving the AA degree from a Florida public community college.
Do you think it means my boyfriend can’t apply since he is looking to aply for fall 2009 ?

He can apply and maybe he gets lucky that someone dropped out or didn’t show up, but it’s very unlikely he will get in at the start of fall, especially this late because there is probably alrleady a ton of people on the list in case someone doesn’t show or drops out.

    6. and one moree … i want to major in fashion design, and i want to go to school in the south. but i don’t want to go to a college that is trictly arts-related, i really want t get the whole college experience and go to a university. any suggestions?

not really, just make sure that the fashion degree is what you really want, you need to know what you are getting into, an extremely competitive field, with very few job opportunities and generally the jobs are only available in larger cities so if you have small town plans after college you can probably forget about those. If it’s really what you want then go for it and you will be better for it, however if you are unsure i might consider getting, sorry, an “actual” degree that will land you a decent job out of college.

    1. your high school registrar knows what to do.
    2. same thing
    3. correct. if they do not ask for one, do not submit one.
    4. SAT scores are sent by the college board.
    5. the answer is right in their statement. read it carefully: it applies to SPRING 2009, NOT fall 2009.
    6. go to a college that has a lot of programs. If you are looking at FSU, then you will have a lot of other people there, not just design students.

Now one for YOU! your ‘financial advisor’ told you that you “HAVE” to apply to at least 7 schools? why not or 8, or 15? A financial advisor advises you on FINANCE, not college applications. You are buying into the whole panic caused by over-achieving parents who push their kids to apply to a bunch of schools for which they have almost zero chance of admittance. These schools get bombarded with applications and then they have to sort out the mess later. Sometimes, like FSU, they admit too many, and too many end up going there, hence the overcrowding problem……..

    1. You will need to request your transcript and guidance counselor recommendation. They will need to be mailed by the high school (they will probably get mailed together).

    2. Semester hours are just credits. Most college classes are between 3 and 5 semester hours (credits) and students are generally expected to take 15 per semester.

    3. Only submit an essay if the college requires one.

    4. Colegeboard sends your SAT scores. This way, the college knows they are official. Request Collegeboard to send them at least 3 weeks before the application deadline (if you put the college on your SAT, the college will already have your scores). If you didn’t put the college on your SAT, there will be a fee of $9.50 per college to send it.

    5. He should be fine since he’s not looking to enter in Spring 2009.

    6. Just go to a college that have a major in Fashion Design available.

I am going to be honest with you. You do not need to apply to 7 colleges. I applied to 3 and I was totally fine. As long as you have 1 college you are pretty sure you’ll get accepted to, 1 college you’ll probably get into, and 1 dream college (don’t dream too much), you will be totally fine. Nobody needs to apply to 7 or more colleges.

I won’t lie, but Rusty S has no clue what he’s talking about.
